The Pediatric Dentist in Pasadena
Pasadena pediatric dentists work primarily to fix the oral health of children, anywhere from the age of infancy to teenage years. Pediatric dentists have most experience with the subtleties of teeth and gums at different ages of kids. We all know about baby teeth and adult teeth. From the first year onward until about 7 years old, your kid will grow and then lose the first set of teeth. These are replaced by a second, permanent set. The second set must last a life time, therefore requiring the care of a pediatric dentist.
In general, a pediatric dentist has the same basic training of 4 years of dental school, but then they spend two more years of residency training specificially in the field of pediatric dentistry, working with children.
Basic treatments
The child will begin with a dental exam to ascertain general oral health, as well as the risk of cavities. Standard care will follow, including prophylaxis scaling, as well as fluoride treatments. Children at high risk of cavities may be advised on diet. These cavities may be filled by the pediatric dentist.
Advanced treatments
Improper bite may require an orthodontic evaluation, leading to braces. However, this can be delayed until the kids are older in many cases. More serious conditions such as type 1 or 2 diabetes, heart defects, seasonal or nonseasonal allergies can all be diagnosed at this point by the trained dentist. In terms of dental health, gum diseases such as periodontal disease (advanced in some children due to genetics), ulcers and mucoceles might be assessed by the Pasadena pediatric dentist.
